SLUFAN Seeks Candidates for Board Positions

The South Lake Union Friends and Neighbors Community Council (SLUFAN) has four (4) positions coming available on its Board of Directors.  Of these, three (3) are board appointed positions and one (1) is a community elected position.
 
About SLUFAN
The mission of The SLUFAN Community Council is to:

  • conduct or support activities exclusively for the benefit of or to carry out the purposes of the South Lake Union neighborhood plan;
  • serve as the combined voice of stakeholders of South Lake Union on public policy issues, development issues;
  • act as a communication and educational vehicle to the neighborhood; and
  • promote community involvement in decisions, guidance, and neighborhood improvement projects.

About the SLUFAN Board Elections
 
Timeline:  Elections will be held at the Annual Meeting held this year on April 7th, 2009 from 4-6pm.  Letter of Interest from interested candidates are due on or by March 10th, 2009.
 
The April 7th, 2009 Annual Meeting will be held at the Armory Building in Lake Union Park (860 Terry Avenue  North).
 
Board Member Responsibilities:  Responsibilities of a Board Member include attendance at monthly meetings which are held the first Tuesday of each month from 4-6PM and a commitment to the full three-year term. Additional opportunities for community engagement are available through committee participation and community outreach.
 
Candidate Eligibility: Candidates must be South Lake Union community stakeholders—residents, business and property owners (or their representatives), or employees in the South Lake Union neighborhood.
 
Board Election Process:   Candidates interested in a SLUFAN Board positi on need to submit a Letter of Interest and CLEARLY STATE WHETHER YOU’RE INTERESTED IN THE BOARD-APPOINTED POSITION OR THE COMMUNITY-ELECTED POSITION OR BOTH.
 
The Letter of Interest should outline the candidate’s motivation for becoming SLUFAN Board Member, background in South Lake Union, and the strengths brought to the Board.  Letter s of Interest should be limited to 200 words or less, and will appear on the SLUFAN website by a month before the Annual SLUFAN board meeting, when elections will be held.

Letter of Interest from interested candidates are due on or by March 10th, 2009.
 
Positions Available:  Currently, three (3) board appointed positions and one (1) community elected positions are coming available on the SLUFAN Board of Directors.
 
Voter Eligibility:  For community members to be eligible to vote on the community elected position, they must meet the following SLUFAN stakeholder requirements:

  • Have attended at least two SLUFAN Community Council meetings in the past nine months
  • Be a Stakeholder. "Stakeholders" are the residents; business and property owners (or their representatives); or employees in the South Lake Union neighborhood who spend the majority of their working time in the neighborhood.
  • Be in attendance to vote at the Annual Meeting—April 7th, 2009 from 4-6pm.

 
All Stakeholders are Welcome!!  SLUFAN welcomes all members of the South Lake Union community who are interested in taking an active role in the future of this neighborhood to apply for a board position, join a committee and/or attend our monthly meetings.

The "Stakeholder" definition of SLUFAN is pretty weak
As is the meeting time - 4pm on a Tuesday sure seems convenient for architects, land owners, and construction folks to get off work early. Not so much for actual community involvement.
