Bike Share Expo August 11th at the Discovery Center

Over the past few years, bike share programs have swept through Europe and become a critical part of the local transportation network. They were designed to be an on-demand mobility option, enabling people to check out a bike from a designated bike share station and return it to any designated bike share station after their trip. The most popular program, the Velib in Paris, boasts 24,000 bikes in over 1,800 kiosks.

Today, cities throughout North America are adapting the bike share concept to meet their growing mobility needs.

Over the last couple of years, King County Metro has been toying with the idea of setting up a bike share program for our region. This summer, Metro has teamed up with the City, Cascade Bicycle Club and Vulcan to host an expo with different bike share vendors who will share their kiosks, bikes and ideas.

The expo will be held right in our hood Tuesday, August 11th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Discovery Center (101 Westlake Ave. N).
